Carmen Abesamis-Dichoso, OD, MAT, FIACLE, FPCO, FAAO
Carmen Abesamis-Dichoso is an Optometrist from the Philippines. She was awarded the 2017 Outstanding Optometrist of the Year by the Optometric Association of the Philippines. Her practice focuses on Specialty Contact Lens Design and Myopia Control. She has presented several posters and lectures internationally focusing on Contact Lens Practice. She continues to go around the country lecturing and giving workshops on Myopia Management. Alessandra Balestrazzi, MD
Dr. Alessandra Balestrazzi is the Head of the Corneal & External Diseases Service, Referent of the Rare Corneal Diseases, holder of a high specialty assignment for corneal diseases at the Ophthalmic Hospital in Rome. She lectured in the Masters of Corneal Transplantation Surgery and Refractive Surgery at the University of L'Aquila and Catholic University of Rome. Dr. Melissa Barnett is the principal optometrist at the University of California, Davis Eye Center in Sacramento. She is an internationally recognized key opinion leader. Elena Belousova, MD, PhD
Dr. Elena Belousova is a senior lecturer on Practical and Theoretical optometry, Contact lenses and Ophthalmological Research at the NOCHU DPO Academy of Medical Optics and Optometry in Moscow. Stefano Bonini, MD
Prof. Stefano Bonini is Full Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the School of Specialization in Ophthalmology at the University of Rome Campus-Biomedico. 3-year research Fellowship in Ocular Immunology at the Eye Research Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA). Since 1987 he has worked as a researcher and then as an Associate Professor at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". Since 2002 he is Full Professor at the Chair of Ophthalmology of the University of Rome Campus Bio-Medico. Prof. Pauline Cho obtained her Bachelor and PhD degrees from the University of New South Wales, Australia and University of Bradford, UK, respectively. Her research interests include contact lenses and orthokeratology and has published over 160 papers. She was one of the Winners of Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) Awards of Excellence (Pioneers in Myopia Control) in 2018. Damon Ezekiel graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Optometry in 1989. He owns and manages the specialist contact lens and general optometry practice, Ezekiel Eyes, in Perth, Western Australia. Damon is also a contact lens consultant to various research organisations. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally. In particular, Damon teaches the fitting of all types of rigid gas permeable contact lenses, including Orthokeratology, scleral lenses, soft bifocal, multi-focal and cosmetic contact lenses. He is the President of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists. He was awarded the prestigious Herschel Medal from the same Society. He is co-founder Euro-Asian Scleral Lens Academy.
Donald Ezekiel, DipOpt, DCLP, FACLP, FAAO, FCLSA
Dr. Ezekiel, Australian Optometrist worked with Joseph Dallos who influenced him to make his own contact lenses. In 1971 started a contact lens laboratory to make lenses for his patients, making research and developing several lenses including the IOGEL intraocular lens, the Gas Permeable Scleral lens, and the Soft Translating Bifocal lens. He has lectured and conducted workshops worldwide. In 1997 he was awarded Australia’s third highest honour as a Member of the Order Of Australia for his contribution to the development of contact lenses. In 2005 he was awarded the Hershel gold medal by the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists. In 2006 was awarded an “Award of Excellence “ by the Global Lens Symposium.
Greg Gemoules, OD
Dr. Greg Gemoules has established a large specialty lens practice in the Dallas suburb of Coppell. He is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry, and has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Millikin University. Dr. Gemoules has several peer-reviewed publications in the area of specialty contact lenses, and has presented at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium and other international educational symposia. He is a pioneer in the design and fitting of scleral lenses using digital imaging and wavefront-guided optics, and holds several patents and patents pending in that field. He is a regular reviewer for a journal of clinical and experimental ophthalmology.
Robert Gerowitz, OD
In 1994, Dr. Gerowitz was named "Best and Brightest" in Optometry by 20/20 Magazine and in 1997 Eyegrad named him "Optometrist of the Year.” Dr. Rob also participated in the first ever Global Orthokeratology Symposium. Dr. Gerowitz has become an internationally recognized speaker of OrthoK and practice management. He is a charter member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. In May, 2006 Dr. Gerowitz received his Fellowship in the Academy and in October of 2006 was named to its Board of Directors. In 2019 Dr. Gerowitz started Mission: Myopia Control. Along with his two partners, they teach new Orthokeratologists how to implement this exciting specialty in their own practices.
Cary Herzberg, OD, FIAOMC
Dr. Herzberg has been practicing Orthokeratology and myopia control for over 35 years. He lectures extensively and holds a patent on the first scleral Orthokeratology design. He published numerous articles on specialty contact lenses, myopia control, and orthokeratology.
He is co-founder, President and board member of the International Academy of Orthokeratology & Myopia Control and the founder, Chairman of the Board of Orthokeratology Academy of America. He has visiting Professor status at Tianjin Medical University, Shandong Medical University, and He Eye Hospital/University. Recently he has collaborated on several projects worldwide that will lay the groundwork for future growth in the field of myopia control.
Caroline Burnett Hodd, PhD, MCOptom DipTp(IP)
Caroline comes from an optical family. Her father, grandfather and great grandfather were optometrists. Her grandfather opened a specialist contact lens practice in central London after the Second World War.
Before becoming an optometrist Caroline studied for a PhD in Particle Physics until she succumbed to optometry and took over her father’s practice.
In 2014 she opened the Dry Eye Centre, to offer tailor-made treatment for dry eye. The Centre was the first in Europe to use Intense Pulsed Light Treatment for dry eye and aims to be at the forefront of dry eye treatment.

Dr. Elise Kramer is a residency-trained optometrist in Miami FL who specializes in ocular surface disease and specialty contact lenses. Her Doctorate degree was awarded in Optometry from the Université de Montréal in 2012. She then completed her residency at the Miami VA Medical Center. Her time there included training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the nation’s top eye hospital. After her residency, Dr. Kramer became a fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society. Dr. Kramer is a member of the American Optometric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Michael Lipson, OD, FAAO, FSLS
Dr. Michael Lipson is an optometrist/associate professor at University of Michigan. His clinical practice involves specialty contact lenses. He has published peer- reviewed clinical research studies on OrthoK, vision-related quality of life, myopia control and new lens designs. He lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Lipson developed a validated questionnaire to assess vision-related quality of life for all types of vision correction, including OrthoK. He is an independent consultant to the specialty lens industry emphasizing OrthoK education. He is on the GPLI Advisory Board, served as Vice-President of the Scleral Lens Education Society and on the Scleral Lens Education Society Board for many years.
Rita Mencucci, MD
Dr. Rita Mencucci is Medical Director at the Eye Care Clinic Hospital Careggi Florence. Currently Dr. Mencucci is mainly dedicated to anterior segment surgery, including both cataract surgery and corneal surgery, with over 10,000 surgical operations performed. She is an Italian member of the commission of the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) - subspecialty cataract and refractive surgery. She is also part of the executive council of the Italian Society of Corneal Transplantation and Ocular Surface (SITRAC), of the Italian Society of Stem Cells and Ocular Surface (SICSSO). Gavin graduated in Optometry from the University of Melbourne and is a member of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists. He is Head of the Contact Lens clinic in Ophthalmology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and has an appointment as Clinical Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Adelaide. He has served the profession in Australia as a Director of Optometry Australia for over 10 years. Gavin is a Director of Sight For All, a charity in South East Asia. Jaume Pauné, OD, PhD, FIAO
Jaume Pauné has a egreed in Optics and Optometry and Master in Optometry and Vision Sciences by the Faculty of Optics and Optometry of Terrassa (FOOT). He obtained his PhD in Optics and Optometry with the topic "Myopia control with radial refractive gradient contact lenses". He holds the Spaniard National Council of Optics and Optometry Award in 1992 and in 2010. Behalf a Spanish Patent on two Orthokeratology lens design, a myopia control lens and a keratoconus contact lens designs. Currently works as a clinician in the Centro Medico Teknon in Barcelona, Spain and associate professor for specialty contact lenses at Faculty Optics and Optometry of Terrassa University.
Ken Pullum, DipCLP, FBCLA, FBCO
Ken was awarded the FBOA at the City University. He is currently principal optometrist in the scleral lens service at Moorfields, Oxford Eye Hospitals, and recently appointed as senior optometrist specialising in contact lens practice at the Queens Hospital, Romford, UK. The majority of his time is dedicated to medical applications of contact lenses for keratoconus, post corneal transplant and management of dry eye pathology. He has made a significant contribution to the development of modern scleral lens clinical practice and manufacturing, subjects on which he has lectured and written extensively internationally.
Pam Satjawatcharaphong, OD, FAAO, FSLS
Dr. Pam Satjawatcharaphong graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry (UCBSO) and completed a Cornea and Contact Lens Residency at Southern California College of Optometry. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Chief Mentor for Cornea & Contact Lens Residency at UCBSO. She has also performed clinical research in the area of dry eye in the Ocular Surface Imaging Clinic. Her areas of interest include specialty contact lens fittings for corneal ectasia, post-surgical corneas, ocular surface disease, aphakia, presbyopia, and ocular disfigurement. She currently serves as the President of the Scleral Lens Education Society.
Muriel Schornack, OD, FAAO, FSLS
Dr. Muriel Schornack is a consultant at Mayo Clinic, and holds the rank of Assistant Professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. She was also responsible for the development of Mayo Clinic’s scleral lens program in 2006. Since the inception of Mayo’s scleral lens clinic, Dr. Schornack has lectured, presented, and published regularly on the topic of scleral lenses. Dr. Schornack is a founding member of the Scleral Lens Education Society, and currently serves on the advisory board for the organization. She was also a founding member of the SCOPE (Scleral Lenses in Current Ophthalmic Practice Evaluation) research team, and remains active in the group’s leadership.
Louise Sclafani, OD, FAAO, FSLS
Louise A. Sclafani, served as Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Optometric Services at University of Chicago from 1993-2017. Her main interests include contact lenses, corneal disease, and surgery co-management. She applies her experience of challenging hospital based care as Vice President of Professional Affairs for SynergEyes and continues to see patients at SoLo Eyecare a private practice in Chicago and trains young doctors at the Illinois College of Optometry. She was awarded the status of Diplomate by the American Academy of Optometry CCLRT and selected by Review of Optometry as one of the Top 10 Females at the Forefront of Optometry.
Boris Severisnky, OD, FAAO, FBCLA, FSLS
Boris Severinsky is a Chief of Specialty Lens Service at the Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to that, he served as the Head of Specialty Lens Service at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem. His experience includes design and fitting of specialty contact lens for keratoconus, after corneal surgery and for a variety of ocular surface disease. Dr. Severinsky has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed optometry and contact lens journals as well as a chapter about contact lenses in a major ophthalmology “Cornea” textbook. He lectures nationally and internationally on various contact lens and cornea disease topics.
Luigina Sorbara, OD, MSc, FAAO, FBCLA
Since 1984, Dr Luigina Sorbara has been Head of the Contact Lens Clinic and is now a Professor. She has a Diplomate in Cornea and Contact Lenses. Gina lectures in Advanced Contact Lens Fitting and Aftercare. Her current research interests are in speciality lens designs for keratoconus, irregular corneal surfaces and orthokeratology, extended wear, contact lens induced dry eye, GPC, and other contact lens induced corneal complications. She is heavily involved in international optometric education and educators particularly related to contact lenses with IACLE, teaching educators how to teach, and has established curricula and has helped to set up school based clinics.
Steven Sorkin, OD, FAAO, FSLS
Dr. Sorkin is Director of Specialty Contact Lens Services at Corneal Associates of New Jersey in Fairfield, New Jersey. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry. He participates in many contact lens related studies and lectures extensively throughout the country on contact lenses, dry eyes, ocular allergies, ocular therapeutics and corneal disease. He has a special interest in difficult to fit contact lens patients, such as those with keratoconus and post-surgical cases and manages many patients with complex anterior segment conditions.

Brian is an experienced independent practitioner in his stunningly refurbished and contemporised Victorian house-practice in Northampton UK. He is a Past President of the BCLA and a former AOP Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year. He lectures internationally on business, imaging technology, dry eye and specialist contact lens topics, all based on real life experience in the consulting room. Brian learnt that people retain more by being entertained while being educated and so since that time his lectures and workshops have been interactive and fun, sometimes even hilarious, but always informative. He is maybe Optometry’s best-known EDUTAINER.
Stephen Vincent, PhD, BAppSc (Optom)
Associate Professor Steve Vincent completed his undergraduate optometry degree in 2004 and PhD in 2011, and has since published over 60 scientific papers primarily related to myopia development, visual optics, and scleral contact lenses. Steve served as an associate editor for Clinical and Experimental Optometry for five years, and is currently an associate editor for Contact Lens and Anterior Eye. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, the British Contact Lens Association, the Scleral Lens Education Society, the Australian College of Optometry, and the Higher Education Academy.
Maria Walker, OD, MS, FAAO, FSLS
Dr. Maria Walker earned her Doctor of Optometry and Vision Science Master’s from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA, completing a Contact Lens Residency at Pacific University in Portland, OR. She has won several awards, including the Vision Care Scholarship for Clinical Excellence (2012), Contact Lens Residency Award (2015), and the Ezell Fellowship given by the American Optometric Foundation (2017 & 2018). Dr. Walker is currently an attending clinician and is pursuing a PhD in scleral lenses at the University of Houston College of Optometry, and is the current Secretary of the Scleral Lens Education Society.
